One common complaint many affiliate marketers share is the amount of money they are spending on their affiliate marketing campaigns compared to the amount they are actually earning. But when you take a step back and analyze the costs, most internet marketers don’t really know how much they are actually spending.
Let’s review this equation from a different standpoint. We are going to take a look at how much internet marketing costs from the relationship of money and time.
When it comes to becoming an internet marketing success, the internet is famous for being an equal opportunity employer. People from all over the world can earn an incredible amount of money regardless of religion, sex, age, ethnic origin and the list goes on.
There are two common denominators that every marketer shares. Everybody has a certain amount of money and time. Some have more money than time and are able to outsource several marketing functions in which to build their internet business. Then there are the people that have more time than money. These marketers have to use their time and do things themselves in order to become an affiliate earning success.
Nowhere is the factor of money vs. time more predominate then when it comes to advertising and promoting your affiliate business. Our whole objective with an internet marketing campaign is to get visitors to our websites. Without any visitors you will never make any money and let’s face it that’s why we run a business.
You can buy advertising in the form of pay per click and immediately begin getting traffic. This does not mean you are guaranteed to make a profit, but rather that you are guaranteed to have visitors at a predetermined price per click.
If you don’t have any money to invest in advertising don’t feel like you are going to be left out in the cold. Some of the best and most successful marketing methods are free such as article marketing.
Writing and submitting articles is one the best ways to generate traffic for your internet business. Over time, the more articles you write the more back links you will build and this will in turn generate traffic for you. This may not be the quickest way to gain traffic but over the long run article submission is a great affiliate marketing tool.
At any rate, whether you decide to spend money or time, (or a combination of both); you need to keep track of what marketing your internet business is costing you. Make a determination of what your hourly time is worth and try to keep track of it on a weekly basis. You should also be tracking your other expenditures such as domain names, auto responders, website hosting, program upgrades and so forth.
By keeping a close eye on your monthly business expenses and the hourly rate of your time, you will be able to get an accurate depiction of just how much your internet business is costing in relation to the amount of money you are earning. I wish you good luck with all of your business endeavors.

It is important that people know they have to invest both time and money to have a successful home business, they must take action and make it work.

Hi Tim
I agree that knowing how much you spend on your business, whether in time or money is important.
If one doesn’t do this, how will they know whether they are progressing or if the business is even worthwhile.

Tim,
That is a good reminder to everyone to keep an eye on their expenses, minimize them, and so increase the profits their home based business can produce.
