Affiliate marketing has one of the highest failure rates in the home business genre. Two out of every ten people don’t succeed. That figure is better than it used to be. There were times when 95% of all affiliate marketers failed.
Your definition of success may be different than others. Some people are only looking to make a couple hundred bucks a month while others are trying to make a full time check. It has not become uncommon to be able to make a full time income from home, it all depends if the right methods are being used.
Let’s take a look at some methods you can use to avoid becoming another statistic in the online business world.
1. A lot of affiliates are just too lazy or don’t know how to set up their own website. Using the affiliate website that the merchants provide is usually a sure fire way to fail. You will need massive amounts of traffic to your website in order to be successful using the merchant’s website. Create or have your own website created for you and drive targeted traffic to it.
2. Many affiliates go from one product to the next not having made any income on any program that they promote. Just because a program is free to join it doesn’t mean it is the reason you are failing. If your free programs aren’t making you any money you may want to think about the way you are promoting them. Also if you concentrate on making money with one program before you move on to the next you may cut your failure rate down.
3. Affiliates are not driving enough targeted traffic to their website is another reason why they fail. Good solid traffic is a must to ensure success. Targeted traffic means sales and a lot of targeted traffic can mean a lot of sales.
4. The final point I would like to make is about work ethics. A home business is just that, a business. A business takes time and work. There are no easy routes to take, just working hard and smart. If you are looking for a get rich scheme then affiliate marketing may not be for you.
It took me a few years to realize before I settled on the affiliate business that there are no get rich quick programs that will make you a million dollars a week just by sitting on your butt.
I hope you will take my advice to heart and avoid the affiliate marketing pitfalls that so many others have made. Remember theses tips; blogging, writing articles, SEO and social marketing will take you a long way in this business. Good luck to you, Tim Stokes. The Affiliate Earning Website

I believe the #1 reason so many fail is that they just don’t realize there is WORK in running a home business. The Internet lights up gullible eyes with claims of instant wealth and when the time comes and somebody joins with “get-rich-quick” dreams, they are bound to be disappointed and doomed to quick failure. Sometimes the system fails them, but more often they fail due to lack of effort. You pointed this out but sometimes it needs to be reiterated for readers who come across and think “This won’t happen to me”. It can and will IF you don’t take your business seriously and apply the effort needed to succeed.

Hey Tim,
I believe many affiliate marketers fail because they don’t realize the severity of what all is involved. After they finally get the big picture, they fail to make it all come together and just quit in frustration. For those that don’t quit and look to others for help, they wind up getting confused and information overload sets in. Again, they give up in frustration.
Others sink so much money into this or that and never earn a return on their investment and are convinced that everything is scam. It’s sad to see any of these scenarios unfold, but it happens all too often.
Great article.
Hi Tim,
You are right about the part of getting down to your business and working hard at it. I was the same as you I suppose, it took me a couple of years to realize that I was not going to make anything sitting on my butt. Although I have only been with PIPS 3 months I am still learning and am committed to keep going. I have learned so much more with this group as well. I just feel sorry for all those who are to follow in my footsteps and loose a lot of money jumping around from one thing to another
